When Eugene Plinius Hubbard was born on December 16, 1894, in Chicago, Illinois, his father, Moses, was 36 and his mother, Wilhelmina, was 32. He had one brother. He entered the military service in New Jersey. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Lieutenant in Company A, 1st Machine Gun Battalion, 1st Infantry Division.
