When Jethro Shoemaker and his twin brother Lee Roy were born in 1896 in Alabama, their father, Joseph, was 29, and their mother, Cornelia, was 22. He enlisted in the Army on September 8, 1916. He embarked for oversea service on June 1, 1917. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Corporal n Company K, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on May 18, 1918 and is now buried in Community Bible Church Cemetery, Carroll County, Georgia, USA. His name is inscribed on the Cantigny monument as CPL G SHOEMAKER.
