When Ivan Stringer was born on May 21, 1891, in Illinois, his father, Nathan, was 31 and his mother, Mariah, was 25. He had four brothers. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Machine Gun Company, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action in 1918 and is now buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Stewartville, Olmsted County, Minnesota, USA.
