Son of W.B. and Edna Sturdevant; born Janary 8, 1895 at Brewersville, Jennings County, Indiana. Moved to Tipton County in early youth. Occupation: Farmer. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army on May 2, 1916 at Columbus, Ohio. Transferred to Fort Sam Houston, Texas; assigned to Medical Department, 7th Field Artillery. Embarked for overseas from New York City on June 10, 1917. Killed in action on May 18, 1918 on Montdidier Front. Buried at Oise, France. Died at age 23 years, 4 months, 11 days. Time in service: 2 years, 16 days.

The american legion post at Tipton, Tipton County, Indiana is named in his honor.
