Fred Eugene Turner was born on March 3, 1893. He entered the military service in Florida on March 27, 1917. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company E, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was at the front when he was Killed in Action by shell explosion at Cantigny, France on May 27, 1918 but was declared "Missing in Action" and is commemorated on Tablets of the Missing, Somme American Cemetery, Bony, France. He also has a marker in Hephzibah Cemetery, Hephzibah, Richmond County, Georgia, USA.
