When Leslie Robert Venters was born in August 1899 in North Carolina, his father, Henry, was 32 and his mother, Mary, was 28. He had four brothers and two sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company G, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on May 28, 1918 at the age of 18 and is now buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia, USA. His name is inscribed on the Cantigny monument as PVT L R VENETERS.
