When Fred Newman Wallace was born in January 1896 in Pilot Point, Texas, his father, John, was 26 and his mother, Thomas, was 20. He had one sister. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Corporal in Company K, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division.
