When Richard William Heller was born on July 28, 1893, in St. Anthony, Idaho, his father, George, was 30 and his mother, Lois, was 19. He had two brothers and three sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company L, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on July 19, 1918 at the age of 24 and is now buried in Upper Hill Cemetery, Anaconda, Deer Lodge County, Montana, USA. His name is inscribed on the Buzancy monument as PVT R HELLAR CO L.
