Louis C. Crawford was the son of Rosetta Crawford. He served in Company K, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, as a Private during World War I.

Pvt Crawford died on July 15, 1917, from bronchial pneumonia. He was first buried in France on July 17, 1917, and later reinterred on April 18, 1918, in the temporary American Cemetery at St. Nazaire, Loire-Inférieure. After the war, Pvt. Crawford’s remains were disinterred on July 28, 1920, and returned to the U.S. aboard the Princess Matoika, arriving at Hoboken on September 5, 1920. He was sent on to Illinois and, on October 1, 1920, was received by his mother and laid to rest in his hometown. His burial card confirms that his correct name was Lewis.
