When Albert Leon Carter was born on January 22, 1899, in Ellaville, Georgia, his father, Charles, was 26 and his mother, Lillie, was 24. He had three brothers and one sister. He entered the military service in Kentucky on April 9, 1917; later transferred to Fort Bliss, Texas. He was attached to Company D, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division with which unit he embarked for overseas. He died from his wounds received in battle on July 18, 1918 and is now buried in Aisne-Marne American Cem., Belleau, France.
