James Neville C. Richards was born on January 24, 1892 in Petersburg, Petersburg City, Virginia. He entered the military service in Virginia. He was a Captain of the 26th Infantry, First division, regular army, and went over with the first contingent of American troops in June,1917, with General Pershing, having served for a year previous to that time in the Mexican trouble. The photograph was taken while he was tactical officer at the Sewanee Military Academy. He was killed in action in France on July 19, 1918 and is now buried in Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Seringes-et- Nesles, France. His name is inscribed on the Buzancy monument as CAPT J N RICHARD.
