When Clyde Earl Leatherwood was born on December 22, 1893, his father, Robert, was 26 and his mother, Sally, was 27. He had four brothers and two sisters. He entered the military service in California. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company A, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 7, 1918 and is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France.
