When Clarence R. Gold was born in January 1896 in Marshall, Tennessee, his father, Chesney, was 25 and his mother, Belle, was 20. He had three brothers and three sisters. He entered the military service in Alabama. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company A, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 18, 1918 and is now buried in Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Seringes-et- Nesles, France.
