James R. Kennedy was born on May 2, 1890. He lived with his parents until he became 19 years of age. He then went to Canada and entered on a homestead and received patent of title June 7, 1913. At the time of enlistment he was homesteading in Montana. He enlisted in the Army on July 6, 1917, at Fort Harrison, Helena. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company A, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He sailed for France in October 1917. He was in the thick of the combat from December 1917 to the time of his death. He was reported missing in action on July 18, 1918 and was later reported dead, manner of death undertermined. He is now buried Plum River Cemetery, Jo Daviess County, Illinois, USA.
