A native of Hamilton, Massachusetts, Donald Donaldson attended several institutions before graduating from the United States Military Academy in 1931. As a battalion commander, his unit arrived at Utah Beach and fought as a part of Patton's Army. Donaldson was killed by sniper fire during an eastward advance from the city of Laval while examining a map on the hood of his Jeep.
