When Harry F. Loeven was born in 1886, his father, Jacob, was 28 and his mother, Catherine, was 17. He had two sisters. He entered the military service in Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company D, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action but declared "Missing" on July 19, 1918 and is memorialized on Tablets of the Missing, Aisne-Marne American Cemetery, Belleau, France. His name is inscribed on the Buzancy monument as PVT H LOEDEN.
