When Willard Sidney King and his twin brother Walter Guy were born on December 7, 1891, in Eastsound, Washington, their father, Edward, was 31, and their mother, Israella, was 25. He had three brothers. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company M, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 18, 1918 and is now buried in Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Seringes-et- Nesles, France. He has a cross memorial in the American Legion Memorial located in the cemetery at Big Sandy, MT where Pvt King was from.
