When Lester Leon Harman was born on May 6, 1894, in Winchester, Indiana, his father, Charles, was 29 and his mother, Anna, was 24. He had one sister. He was a mail carrier before his enlistment. Lester entered the service on Oct.5, 1917, in Winchester, IN. He was sent to Camp Taylor, KY; assigned to Company K,162nd Infantry. He embarked overseas on June 16,1918 and was assigned to Machine Gun Company,16th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division. He died on July 21,1918 (at the age of 24) in Field Hospital No.12 of wounds received in the Aisne-Marne Offensive. He is now buried in Fountain Park Cemetery, Winchester, Randolph County, Indiana, USA. His name is inscribed on the Buzancy monument as PVT L HARMON.
