William J. Deevy was born in 1887. He was a civil engineer, graduated at Manhattan College class of 1907. He attended the Officers' Training School at Plattsburg. He went overseas in January 1918. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Lieutenant in Company A, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 18, 1918 and is now buried in Chateau-Thierry French National Cemetery, Chateau-Thierry, Departement de l'Aisne, Picardie, France.
