When Paul Farup was born on January 10, 1898, in Park River, North Dakota, his father, Karl, was 41 and his mother, Bertha, was 30. He had one brother and three sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Company E, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 22, 1918 in France (at the age of 20) and is now buried in Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Seringes-et- Nesles, France. He also has a marker in Park River Memorial Park, Park River, Walsh County, North Dakota, USA.
