When Warren Rice was born on January 2, 1885, in Johnson, Kentucky, his father, James, was 28 and his mother, Julia, was 20. He had two brothers and four sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a First Lieutenant in Company C, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 19, 1918, at the age of 33 in France and is now buried in Turkey Knob Cemetery, Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, USA. His name is inscribed on the Buzancy monument in Company G, 18th Infantry Regiment.
