When Mervin John Armstrong was born on October 28, 1897, in USA, his father, John, was 36 and his mother, Annie, was 26. He had one brother and four sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Company H, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on July 18, 1918 in France, at the age of 20 and is now buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia, USA.
