Athie Herschel Nesbitt was born on July 31, 1899 in Tennessee City, Dickson County, Tennessee. He was the son of Alonzo Newton Nesbitt and Emma Elizabeth Gilmore Nesbitt. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company K, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 18, 1918 (at the age of 28) and is now buried in Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Seringes-et- Nesles, France. His surname is inscribed on the Buzancy monument as Nesbint.
