The site is located on the old military airfield of Gino Lisa, which is immediately adjacent to the commercial airport of Foggia. The Aeroporto Gino Lisa, named for an Italian Caproni bomber pilot of WW1, is now used for personal housing and access may be restricted. Foggia is the main city of a plain called Tavoliere, the “Breadbasket” also known as the "granary of Italy". This part of Puglia (Apulia) is a large flat area and very suitable for airfields, and in fact in WW2 the area was home to many bases of the 15th US Air Force. The old military airport, Gino Lisa, is on the north side of the commercial airport, and just of the road on the left in the direction of downtown Foggia.
