Bury St Edmunds -John Appleby Rose Garden

Description:

The garden is named after Tech Sgt John Appleby of the 487th Bomb Group at Lavenham, who fell in love with the county and wrote the book Suffolk Summer in 1948. He gave the copyright to the town council so royalties would maintain this place as a permanent memorial. The garden contains several memorials to the 94th US Bombardment Group and USAAF and others.

The site is the Appleby Rose Garden. The Appleby Rose Garden is on the southern side of the Abbey Gardens. The Abbey Gardens entrance gate could be accessed via Angel Hill road opposite Abbey Gate Street.
