Back to Search Result

Description:

The site features a plaque honoring Private First Class Clifford A. Maughan, who landed here during World War II, along with his comrades from the 2nd Platoon, Mortar Squad of F Company, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, who landed nearby.

Address:

Rue Eisenhower , 50480 , Sainte-Mère-Église , 50-Manche , Normandy , France

The site is a coffee shop (as of September 2024) situated in the town center about 230 meters south of the town hall. The coffee shop is located at the Rue Eisenhower and Voie de la Liberté junction. The site holds significance due to the proximity to where American paratroopers, including those of the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, landed. Over time, the building has been repurposed into a café, paying homage to its historical surroundings and the role of American airborne forces in the liberation of the village.
