Anglo-American Cemetery

Back to Search Result

Description:

The cemetery has isolated burials of 22 American sailors who died during America’s early naval operations in the Mediterranean.

Address:

Carrer d'en Dragó , 07701 , Sant Antoni , , , Spain

The cemetery is located on the northern shore of Port Mahón, near Isla del Rey, in the Balearic Islands, Spain. Perched on a rocky promontory called S’altra banda (“the Other Side”), it overlooks the harbor and is accessible via a narrow footpath, though typically kept locked and visited by appointment. The most accessible way to enter is by sea, using a small pier. Established in the early 19th century, the cemetery served as a final resting place for non-Catholic foreign sailors, particularly U.S. Navy personnel. The cemetery is partially maintained by the Navy League of the United States and was restored by Spanish authorities in 2008.
