Richard "Dick" Fields

Details:

Located 550 meters southwest of Rochelinval on a forest road of the same name. The road is a very narrow farm road that ends in a Y intersect. The memorial is located in the center of this Y.  Plaque On January 7, 2017, the part of the ashes of Richard "Dick" J. Field were scattered by his daughter and granddaughter to fulfill his last wish to join his fallen comrades who had lost their lives in the same field. 



Monument Text:

On this field, scene of fierce combat on January 7, 1945, part of the ashes of Richard "Dick" J. Field have been dispensed by his daughter Ginni and his grand-daughter Rachael. They executed Dick's last wish of joining his comrades who lost their lives in this field.


Ginni & Rachael were accompanied by many friends from all over the world, the USA, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Great Britian, Germany...all attending in honor of and respect for Dick and all his comrades in arms of the 551st PIB.

One of his favorite quotes was: << a Paratroopers attitude: being airborne means never having to miss an opportunity to remind people that you're better than they are >>
