Monument
A small brown stone monument commemorating PFC Van Ryn and PFC Williams of the 47th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division who died on June 20, 1944. After landing at Utah Beach on June 10, 1944, the 47th Infantry Regiment, part of the 9th Infantry Division, was tasked with advancing through the Cotentin Peninsula to cut off German reinforcements and support the capture of Cherbourg, a critical port. The fighting around Teurthéville-Hague was part of this larger push towards Cherbourg, encountering fierce resistance from entrenched German forces. The 47th Regiment eventually played a key role in capturing the city by the end of June.
PFC Van Ryn and PFC Williams were among the soldiers who perished during this advance, likely in the heavy fighting around Teurthéville-Hague as the regiment approached Cherbourg. They died in combat during the liberation of Teurthéville-Hague in the Normandy Campaign.
