A brass inscribed plaque remembering the Battle of Guadalcanal during the Solomons Campaign in 1942.

Honiara Airport was formerly named Henderson Field, name after a US Marine Aviator, Major, Lofton Henderson who was killed during the Battle of Midway.  Henderson Field was the site of intense fighting and key to the success of the Battle of Guadalcanal (Operation Watchtower).
