When Oscar C. Harris was born on October 6, 1920, in Portales, New Mexico, his father, Ollie, was 26 and his mother, Nellie, was 16. He had two brothers and three sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in Company I, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division. He died on January 3, 1945 (at the age of 24) in Belgium during the unit’s attack of Fosse, Belgium and is now buried in Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, San Mateo County, California, USA.
