Benjamin Franklin “Benny” Leary was born on July 17, 1909 in Keyser, Mineral County, West Virginia. He was the son of Charles Earl Leary and Hattie V. Trenter Leary. Benjamin served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Technician Fifth Grade in Cannon Company, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on November 18, 1944 in Aachen, Germany at the age of 35 and is now buried in Queens Meadow Point Cemetery, Keyser, Mineral County, West Virginia, USA. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry monument in Henri-Chapelle, Belgium and ranked as a Corporal.
