Lawrence Lee Beach was born on October 27, 1920 in Soldier, Jackson County, Kansas. He was the son of Arthur Albert Beach and Della Elizabeth Johnson Beach. He attended grade school at Pleasant Ridge and two years of high school at Onaga. He moved to Soldier with his family and was graduated from high school there in 1938. He was a member of the Bucks Grove church. Lawrence enlisted in the army in Topeka on February 8, 1940, and was sent to Angel Island, Calif., where he spent three months after which he was shipped to Pearl Harbor. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor when the Japs attacked on December 7, 1941. Lawrence later returned to the States and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant at Fort Benning, GA. On August 2, 1942 he was married to Miss Regina Ann Schlegel of Frankfort, Kans., while stationed at Camp Swift, Texas. He was promoted to the rank of First Lieutenant in December, 1942 and sent to Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He was later stationed at Leesville, VA., before going to England in October, 1943. He participated in the Normandy invasion and was wounded three times in battle before his death in Belgium on November 18, 1944 at the age of 24. He is now buried in Bucks Grove Church Cemetery, Soldier, Jackson County, Kansas, USA.
