George Edison Tragnitz was born on November 3, 1916 in Cook County, Illinois. He was the son of Herman Tragnitz and Amy During Tragnitz. He enlisted in the Army on April 23, 1940. George served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a First Lieutenant in Company E, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on December 29, 1944 at the age of 28 and is now buried in Saint Benedict Catholic Cemetery, Crestwood, Cook County, Illinois, USA. There's a memorial cross dedicated for him on the site where Lieutenant Tragnitz was Killed in Action in the Hurtgen Forest in Germany.
