James R. Bain was born in 1921 in Indiana. Following his graduation from Bosse in 1939, Lieutenant Bain attended Purdue for three and one-half years and was employed by the Evansville Shipyard before entering the service in February 1942. He received his commission from Camp Davis, NC later that year. Lieutenant Bain was an infantry officer with Gen. Hodge's First army and had been overseas since September 1944. He was Killed in Action on November 20, 1944 in Germany at the age of 23 and is now buried in Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, Hombourg, Belgium.
