Upton Gentry was born on June 17, 1911 in Ellijay, Gilmer County, Georgia. He was the son of Benjamin Franklin Gentry and Frances Viola Bryant McFadden. Upton served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in the 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on October 19, 1944 at the age of 23 and is now buried in Crown Hill Cemetery, Wheat Ridge, Jefferson County, Colorado, USA.
