Levin Lane Sledge, Jr. was born on November 19, 1923. He was the son of Levin Lane Sledge and Lucy Melville Harris Sledge. Levin served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in Company A, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on November 27, 1944 at the age of 21 and is now buried in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Faunsdale, Marengo County, Alabama, USA.
