Benjamin Franklin “Ben” Strickland, Jr. was born on May 20, 1922. He was the son of Benjamim Franklin Strickland and Josie Franklin Caldwell Strickland. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in Company I, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He served in North Africa, Sicily, then Normandy and across France to Belgium, then to Aachen (Siegfried Line in Germany) where he was killed in action on November 17, 1944 at the age of 22. He is now buried in Lanier Cemetery, Grasmere, Talladega County, Alabama, USA.
