Raymond W. Sweeney was born on February 11, 1925. He attended local schools and was employed at the Everedy Company when he entered service shortly after his 18th birthday. He entered the service in May, 1943, and was stationed at Camp Shelby, Miss. for all of his basic training. He was home on a three day furlough last March 28 before going overseas. He arrived in England in April and was stationed there until the invasion. Raymond served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in the 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on September 13, 1944 in Belgium at the age of 19 and is now buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick, Frederick County, Maryland, USA.
