Robert Dale Hopes was born on August 20, 1921 in Centerville, Washington County, Pennsylvania. He was a son of Harry C. Hopes and Matilda D. Hopes. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on January 7, 1941 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Staff Sergeant in the 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on November 18, 1944 in Germany at the age of 23 and is now buried in Gettysburg National Cemetery, Gettysburg, Adams County, Pennsylvania, USA.
