Lawrence E. Cain was born on November 25, 1917 in Morgan County, West Virginia. He was the son of Floyd Ernest Cain and Laura Ann Fritzman Cain. Lawrence was killed in Germany November 16 while serving as a Staff Sergeant in the 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He entered the Army on November 7, 1942 and received his training at Fort Thomas, Ky., and Fort Bragg, N.C. He left for overseas service in March 1943 and was wounded July 25, 1943 in North Africa. He was wounded a second time, July 28, 1943 in France and spent until October 6 in a hospital in England.
