Truman E. Thomas was born on April 25, 1922 in Whitley County, Kentucky. He was the son of Josiah Martin Thomas and Martha Jane Lay Thomas. Truman served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in the 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on September 30, 1944 in Germany at the age of 22 and is now buried in Stanfill-Pleasant View Cemetery, Whitley County, Kentucky, USA.
