John A. Walko was born on November 8, 1923 in Commodore, Indiana County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Charles Walko and Matrona Petrochko Walko. John served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in the 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was killed on October 20, 1944 but was declared Missing in Action and is now buried in Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial, Margraten, Eijsden-Margraten Municipality, Limburg, Netherlands.
