William R. Wilson was born on November 9, 1924 in Williamsburg County, South Carolina. He was the son of William Wesley Wilson and Catherine Odelia Flowers Wilson. He attended Williamsburg high school and worked as a welder for International Paper company, at Georgetown, prior to entering the military service. After entering the army at Fort Jackson and training in Texas, he was sent overseas a few months later. He was in the European invasion, leaving an English port on June 6, 1944. William served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in the 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He fought through Belgium and France and into Germany. He was wounded once. He was killed in Germany on November 23. 1944 and is now buried in Spring Pond P.H. Church Cemetery, Andrews, Williamsburg County, South Carolina, USA.
