Sterling A. Knarr was born on August 22, 1924 in Schuylkill Haven, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of John A. Knarr and Viva N. Bright Knarr. Sterling served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private in the 745th Tank Battalion. He died on October 16, 1944 in Aachen, Germany at the age of 20 and is now buried in Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, Hombourg, Belgium. He also has a cenotaph located in Schuylkill Haven Union Cemetery, Schuylkill Haven, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, USA.
