George W. Helton was born on February 10, 1920 in Laurel County, Kentucky. He was the son of Frank Helton and Hettie VanHook Helton. George served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Technician Fourth Grade in the 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on October 23, 1944 at the age of 24 and is now buried in Rest Haven Cemetery, Corbin, Knox County, Kentucky, USA. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry monument in Henri-Chapelle, Belgium and ranked as a Sergeant.
