George W. Ray was born on December 19, 1924. He was inducted into the U. S. Army on May 13, 1943 at Marlinton, Pocahontas County, West Virginia serving 10 months in the states and 5 months overseas with Company L, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on October 18, 1944 while protecting a pillbox in Germany during an enemy counter-attack. He is now buried in Stony Bottom Cemetery, Stony Bottom, Pocahontas County, West Virginia, USA.
