Orie Thomas Martin was born on August 8, 1921 in Bedford County, Virginia. He was the son of Roscoe Ray Martin and Elsie Mae Payne Martin. Orie served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private in the 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on November 28, 1944 in Germany at the age of 23 and is now buried in Martin-Ashwell Cemetery, Huddleston, Bedford County, Virginia, USA.
