Ernest Charles “Squirt” Delaney was born on July 27, 1912 in Gregory, Gregory County, South Dakota. He was the son of Thomas Delaney and Lillian Tripp Delaney. Prior to entering the armed service in April 1942 he was employed on the the T.R. Walker farm. The followng August he left for his overseas tour of duty. He had been overseas since November, 1942. Ernest served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Technician Fourth Grade in the 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on September 22, 1944 in Germany and is now buried in Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, Hombourg, Belgium. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry monument in Henri-Chapelle, Belgium and ranked as a Sergeant.
