Raymond N. Mudlitz was born on September 20, 1921. He was a Private First Class in the 1st Infantry Division Regiment Artillery that stormed ashore at Omaha Beach, Normandy, on D Day, June 6, 1944. Five months later, after slugging his way across France and Belgium he was killed by a sniper's bullet near Heistern, Germany in the Hurtgen Forest on November 20, 1944. Initially, his body was buried in a giant Belgian military cemetery, but it was brought home to Sussex, Wisconsin after the war. Muditz was reburied in Saint James Catholic Church Cemetery, Menomonee Falls, Waukesha County, Wisconsin, USA.
